Hey, everyone! Welcome to my blog!
My name is Emily Rix. I live in Tennessee with my husband, Jack and twin boys, Levi and Noah. We also have a fur baby, Marley cat. We are originally from Michigan, but moved to Tennessee in June, 2015.
Previously, I was a first grade teacher. After our babies were born, (along with an unexpected NICU journey) my husband and I decided I would stay home with our boys and not return to work immediately. I’m currently still a stay at home mama along with working on this blog and working a business with Young Living.
Where my love for healthy living started:
In 2017, I began a fitness boot-camp. I never really liked working out, but wanted to get in shape, increase my energy and relieve some stress. I absolutely fell in love with the active lifestyle. I was working out roughly 5-6 days a week, eating super healthy and felt great!
I began getting curious about health and nutrition, questioning the processed food and meat I was consuming. This led me to finding documentaries on factory farming, food and health. I was SO disgusted by what I saw, that I gave up eating meat and only dairy had on occasion.
I didn’t eat meat for about 3 years, but now have slowly reintroduced it back into my diet. Turns out, the vegan lifestyle wasn’t the best for living MY healthiest life (everyone is different!).
Along with nutrition, I’ve been researching and experimenting with non-toxic home and body products. At this point I’ve completely switched over to clean beauty products as well as non-toxic home cleaners. The best part about the home cleaners is they are all DIY and SUPER budget friendly!! Check out this post on natural cleaners! It includes a super helpful printable!
Where I’m at in my healthy journey today:
I am no longer a “vegan” or “vegetarian.” I eat what makes me feel good and fuels my body in the best way. I eat when I’m hungry, don’t count calories, and eat REAL food 95% of the time. Do I still eat less healthy foods now and again? Yes! But I am aware of how it makes me feel, so I choose to eat these in moderation.
My beauty products and makeup are all clean, non-toxic products. All of my home cleaners are either budget friendly DIY cleaners, or Young Living products. I choose to use clean baby products on my kids as well. This is something I’m very passionate about and can’t wait to share more on this!
Other things I love and will share with you:
Organizing
In addition to healthy eating, I LOVE LOVE LOVE to organize! It is what brings me happiness and peace. Expect to see organizing blog posts to get you motivated!
Minimalism
I’ve now gone through every single item in my house, purging what no longer “brings me joy” (as Marie Kondo would say). I consider myself a practical minimalist and will be sharing many organizing tips and tricks with you, as well as my approach to minimalism.
Budgeting and Frugal Living
My husband and I took Dave Ramsey’s course, “Financial Peach University” years ago. It was LIFE CHANGING for us. After taking this class (I believe it was back in 2014), we were able to pay off my husbands car and pay off BOTH of our student loans ($100,000 worth of student loans to be exact!!!!). Other than our mortgage, we are debt free!!! Feels SO GOOD to say!
In addition to paying off all non-mortgage debt, we bought a new Chrysler Pacifica using CASH and are making extra payments towards our mortgage, almost monthly. Our emergency fund is up to about 6 months living expenses, our goal being one full year.
I can’t wait to share my favorite budgeting tools and tricks with you. “Live like no one else, so later you can GIVE and LIVE like no one else.” This Dave Ramsey quote is one of my favorites, and the WHY behind living below our means right now.
Simplicity
My goal is to simplify things in life as much as possible. Sometimes this happens by setting up systems in our home that make life easier, saying no more often, trying to let go of “perfectionism” and instead focus on progress, and so on. I’ll be sharing what works for our family and hopefully you can simplify your life as well!
